The Fita 2008 will be held at the Hangar – Fairs and Conventions Center of the Amazon, which was opened in May of 2007. Built over an area of 65 thousand square meters, the Hangar is a tribute to both the aviators and the region itself. It is divided in two pavilions and its architectural design preserved the big hangar erected in the area, which belonged to the Belém Air Force. The Hangar was planned to be the most complete, versatile conventions center in the north of Brazil, with the infrastructure to hold different types of events of any size such as fairs, conferences, conventions, summits, seminars, symposiums, exhibitions and music shows. The hangar complex has its own power generation system to activate the emergency circuits.
The Hangar has escalators and four high-speed elevators that allow for fast movement of the public in addition to adequate spaces and access points to visitors with special physical needs. By putting comfort and technology together, the infrastructure of the Hangar is suitable for events that require simultaneous interpreting, with the technological support of audio and video multimedia systems and stage lighting.
The main auditorium has 2,160 seats and can be split in up to eight sections with 220 seats each. In addition, the Hangar has 14 rooms for lectures, seminars and similar events; a food court with a restaurant and snack bars; and an area of 7.5 thousand square meters for fairs and exhibitions, and the parking lot has 800 parking places.
This tourist facility results from a survey on the operation of convention centers in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, France, and the USA. The objective is to rank Pará amongst the main destinations for attracting events in Brazil. According to the latest ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) ranking, Brazil ranked 8th place in the world in 2007 with 209 events. Currently, the administrative responsibility for the Hangar lies in the State Culture Secretariat of Pará State (Secult).
