The 2008 International Tourism Fair of the Amazon (FITA) is promoted by the Government of Pará State through the State Tourism Company (Paratur) with the support of the Federal Department of Tourism (MTur).
Paratur, which is responsible for organizing and producing the event, is a semi-public company under the indirect administration of the State Government, reporting to the State Secretariat for Development, Science and Technology.
Its main objective is to develop a stimulation policy towards the State’s tourist industry, seeking to improve the infrastructure and leverage the tourist flows from other domestic and foreign markets in the State’s six tourist development centers, namely: Belém, Atlantic Amazon, Araguaia Tocantins, Marajó, Tapajós and Xingu.
For the 2008-2011 period, several projects have been identified which aim at promoting widespread dissemination and promotion of Pará State’s tourist products as well as meeting the new market trends, qualification of tourism-related segments, demand and supply studies, quality control for the tourist product, and developing new products in five segments considered a priority: Business and Events Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Rural and Fishing Tourism, and Ecotourism.
