This year, the theme of the FITA is “Tourism and Sustainability in the Amazon”. Throughout the event, subjects concerning the environmental issue will be discussed in the lectures and workshops to be held at the Fair, enabling those who either directly or indirectly deal with tourist activities, as well as the public in general, to become more aware as to everyone’s responsibility towards the socio-environmental preservation of the Amazon region. In plain terms, the sustainability in the region shall provide the environment and the local population with a safe future, where the needs of the generations to come will be met by their benefitting from the natural resources, thus ensuring continued, enduring, consistent socio-economic development. Some of the topics to be debated in the scheduled lectures are: Events and Businesses; Qualification in Providing Tourist Services; Community-based Tourism; River Transportation in the Amazon; Tourism and the Third Sector; “Water: The Amazon’s Greatest Asset”; and “Culture: the Amazon Identity”. |
